PEOPLE’S LAW OFFICE, PRESS RELEASE:
MINISTRY OF JUSTICE IS ATTEMPTING TO LEAD FADIK ADIYAMAN TO DEATH ON THE PLEA OF SAFETY OF LIFE
MINISTRY O JUSTICE IS ATTEMPTING TO LEAD FADIK ADIYAMAN TO DEATH, WHO IS ON 65TH DAY O HER HUNGER STRIKE, ON THE PLEA OF SAFETY OF LIFE.
Our client, Fadik Adiyaman, on her 65th day of her hunger strike protesting heavy isolation made specifically upon her and her condition getting worse day by day, was arrested 2nd Feb with Ismail Akkol who was claimed to be the participant in the Sabanci Center activity in 1996.
In our recent visit, she has mentioned that her blood pressure occasionally rises up to 20 since she has already hypertension; she collapsed few times in her cell and was put back to her bed by the prison guards.
At the same time, already having thyroid problems for years, our client is unable to take her regular thyroid pills due to her hunger strike, consequently nodules emerged in her throat wounding inside her mouth. The prisons doctor reported that there is a high risk that nodules might turn out to tumours anytime. Also she has steno cardiac as well as having irregular heart beats for the last 3 days due to the stage of the hunger strike and there is also high risk of heart attack.
She is now unable to keep going on her own since shes been suffering from serious medical issues and in severe pain.
Our client has a fair demand: Transferring her to any prison that her friends in. Her hunger strike simply demands this. She was first taken to Bakirkoy Prison for Woman on the day she was arrested 4th Feb, then the following day she was kidnap-taken to Tekirdag T-Type Prison in secret without any reason. Though her rinds, who were convicted similiar offences, are kept in Bakirkoy Prison, so there should be no reason to take her to another. Also, shes been kept in her own cell under heavy isolation, not even allowed to interact with other inmates.
At our recent meetings, the prison management said that the reason for her heavy isolation is for her safety of life and it was strictly ordered by Ministry of Justice.
It is concluded that their concern is not her safety of life since they take no action to meet her fair demand and ignore the hunger strike causing serious medical issues leading to high risk of death.
It is obvious that they lead her to death on the plea of “safety of life”
If not so, they would have taken action for her demand that can be met easily without any obstacles.
Her hunger strike has elevated to the critical stage now and its them not meeting her demand without a legitimate reason as a consequence of their strategical punishment.
Isolation is regarded by everyone as a crime against humanity. Its causing health issues is scientifically proven. Its also well known that political prisoners never accept isolated conditions since they always stand to choose death than accept isolating applications.
Ministry of Justice had been aware that our client wouldn’t accept isolating applications and commence hunger strike when they kidnap-took her to Tekirdag T-Type prison. Heavy isolations have been applied to her, with intention to lead her to death, exiling her away from her friends.
We call out to Ministry of Justice:
Ministry of Justice and the prison management holding the first place, all the other AKP governmental authorities are responsible or her life.
We will not allow her being led to death. We will do anything to get her fair and legitimate demand met.
ISOLATION IS A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY!
MINISTRY OF JUSTICE STOP THE CRIME AND MEET FADIK ADIYAMAN’S DEMAND!
People’s Law Office
From Fadik Adıyaman's letter
FADIK ADIYAMAN HAS BEEN ON HUNGER STRIKE FOR OVER 69 DAYS
FADIK ADIYAMAN’S FAIR DEMAND MUST BE ACCEPTED
Fadik Adiyaman, a turkish revolutionarist prisoner was taken to Tekirdag T-Type Prison, in a cell on her own not allowed to have fresh air time, instead of Bakirkoy Women Prison that ordinarily keeps others those arrested in Istanbul.
Isolation is anti-human application and is torture. Protesting being isolated, 122 revolutionaries had died on hunger strike and 19th December Operations.
Fadik Adiyaman, 50 with hypertension and cardiac issues and a mother of 2, has been on hunger strike since protesting isolation 4th Feb.
There is no legitimate reason not to accept her demand to be in Bakirkoy Women Prison like any others.
We, individuals and organisations named and signed below, do not wish to lose another life on isolation.
Lift the isolation on Fadik Adiyaman and transfer her to Bakirkoy Women Prison.
